Going away party

This is awkward...

Since everyone is asking, I'll post some info here, and re-direct you to a better source for future updates:

Annie wrote on March 16:

Hey!

I was reading your blog and saw the party comments. We WANT to do one for you, just give us a date!!! That's what I was trying to get out of you the other day :-)

I know it's going to be tight for you date-wise, but just let me know and who you want to invite that I may not think of, and we'll figure it out. Hope all is well.

Annie

The party'll be at Annie & Matthew's house in Huntsville; looks like it'll be an April Fools Day Party to boot; yeah, Saturday night, April 1. The 25th was too close & too many people already couldn't make it; any later than that, and I may not make it... (don't let my not being there stop you!).

I'm assuming Annie will post more info on her blog: http://nainconnu.blogspot.com/

Even if it doesn't show up on the blog, I'm sure she'll get more info out to everyone.

Update

Looks like I'm probably at D-31 & counting... I've accepted, and they seem to have accepted my acceptance.

I'll be getting the house painted & then listed in the next few days (week?). Mandi's mother & father will be handling that aspect for me.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish."

The big news:

I am taking a 1 year temporary assignment overseas.

Awesome. But I am scared.

(Anyone looking for a great deal on a house in SE Huntsville?)

I should add that it is temporary and (in the words of the Terminator) "I'll be back".

It'll be a few weeks before I leave.

PS - Thanks to all who have been supportive

The times they are a-changin'

I won't go so far as Drew and password protect certain entries or anything, but I too can't say too much here, for fear of my co-workers reading this... drop me an e-mail if you're curious & don't know WTF I'm talking about.

I'm sure I'll post more later, but for now:

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

Learning my lesson

So, once again, I did think to get the camera, I just didn't.

You see, Saturday, Cindy & I stopped by for a quick look at Cedar Hills Pet Cemetery Inc. which is located at 2467 Nashville Hwy., Columbia, TN.

And I left my camera in the car.

There was the usual: pet names, species, owners names, years and dates of birth & death of animial... Some even outliving their owners. And there were Obelisks and large tombstones, weather proof photos of the dogs & cats, even a Police Dog section.

But the weirdest part was ... well, the second weirdest part was the "Christian" pets; but the weirdest part was the entire section of Jewish pets. Segregated, by itself.

The Crematorium on the hill added to the ambiance.

Damn. I carry the camera in the car for a reason.

BTW, I can't say that the Pet Cemetery is a big tourist spot (though we enjoyed it), the President James K. Polk Home was worth seeing.

We even saw a snake at the Polk Home Garden.

Spring is here

I went to the top of the mountain today at work, and, despite the cooler temperatures today, I know spring is here.

How?

I saw a snake sunning itself.

It was extremely lethargic, so much so that after seeing it had startled me, I thought it was plastic. Then it's tongue flickered.

I did think to get the camera, before I went up the mountain, I just didn't do it.

I went up there to survey a new route for some fiber optic cabling, in case you were wondering. Cause everyone needs fiber to the top of their mountain.
